Gamma Zeta Omega Chapter, was chartered in Miami on April 27, 1940, became the first graduate chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated in the state of Florida. During her sixty-eight (68) glorious years, our grand diva, the chapter, has made significant community contributions of service by Establishing Sustainable Priorities, that through the years have remained in the forefront of local education, family well-being, healthcare, and economic empowerment. Gamma Zeta Omega sorors are extremely elated that we have been able to provided more than six-and-one-half decades of continuous, uninterrupted service to all segments of the Miami-Dade County community, and particularly to youth, the elderly, and the underserved.

On January 15, 1908 Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. was founded on the campus of Howard University, Washington, D.C., by sixteen dynamic, innovative and creative founders who were inspired to make a difference in the lives of others. It is with great Enthusiasm, Spirit and Pride that over 200,000 members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated celebrate 100 years of sisterhood, committed to effect change, improve the stature of women, and provide service to all mankind. This Centennial year is indeed a year of jubilation! What a wonderful testimony to our founders’ dream that thousands upon thousands of dedicated educated women still hold the original vision, goal and ideal, of serving humanity, year after year.

The women of Gamma Zeta Omega are committed to our the founder’s vision: to provide a helping hand, to lift up the life of another human being. Our Chapter’s 2008 – 2009 theme is: “The Ivy Purpose: Purpose Driven Service to the Miami-Dade Community.” We will continue to diligently work towards implementing our national platform, ESP: Extraordinary Service Program, with projects designed to empower, educate, change, and strengthen the Black Family.

Our membership is composed of a dynamic group of college educated women who represent education, medical, legal, business, political, public administration, communications, and social services field. Our members have received recognition both locally and nationally because of their commitment to excellence in all endeavors they pursue.
